**Active Sonar’s Capabilities Assessment**

**Purpose:** Evaluation of an expected range and construction of active sonar detection zones with determined parameters of the probing signal source and the object of echolocation.

**Capabilities:**

•Ability to choose for the calculations any area of the World Ocean.

•Ability to carry out calculations for various types of emitting and receiving antennas.

•Consideration of various factors affecting the formation of hydroacoustic field:

- Topography and structure of the bottom (on the propagation path);

- Rough surface;

- Depending on the sound velocity profile of (in water and ground) in the propagation path of acoustic energy.

•Consideration of sea noise characteristics depending on the area of observation.

•The wave and ray methods of acoustic field calculation are used to ensure the calculations’ accuracy and efficiency

•Displaying calculation results in a user friendly form as a spatial pattern with different color palette, corresponding with gradation of acoustic field parameters (level of losses for the propagation path). Ability to withdraw the horizontal and vertical sections of propagation loss.

**Application Range :**

•Research related to the evaluation of the effectiveness sonar equipment for various purposes.

•Practical activities connected with design, development and use the sonar equipment for various purposes.

•Research related to study of acoustic energy propagation in the ocean.

**Program Description**

During the startup in the main window, you can create a new project or change a previously saved project

The new project asked to enter initial data, choose for calculations an arbitrary area of the World Ocean

In the selected area set the coordinates of start and end points of the route calculation

The next step - display bottom topography along the route calculation (selected from the corresponding database)

Selection of appropriate databases and display the sound velocity profile on the propagation path (in the water)

Selection of appropriate databases and display the sound velocity profile on the propagation path (in a ground)

On the next tab, enter initial data for calculations:

The technical characteristics of the emitting and receiving antennas.

On the next tab, enter initial data for calculations:

Technical characteristics of the sonar emitting and receiving paths, hydro acoustic characteristics of an object, interference conditions, the probability of false alarm.

Are enabled to view spectral characteristics of the noise environment, and vehicle noise, and aggregate noise interference relative to the sonar’s work frequency.

Setting the calculation conditions for acoustic field calculation method (wave or ray method). Starting the calculation process.

The calculation results are presented:

A) as a function of the detecting probability of an object from a distance and depth for a given propagation path of the acoustic energy

With the ability to display:

- Horizontal sectional drawing (for a fixed depth)

- and vertical sectional drawing (for a fixed distance)

B) in the form of the detecting probability of an object on the direction and distance (polar coordinates)

C) in the form of the detecting probability of an object on the direction and distance (Cartesian coordinates)
